Lake Toba

Lake Toba is the largest lake in Southeast Asia. It is on the altitude of 800 meters above the sea level, 100 kilometers long, and 30 kilometers wide. It is situated in the caladera of the huge Toba volcano which erupted approximately 75.000 years ago.
The eruption was of the most masseve eruptions ever on earth. Many scientists believe that this eruption was triggered in the last ice age. The eruption probably lasted two weeks then it formed a caldera which is now lake Toba. The bottom of the volcano rose and formed the island of Samosir.
